As the end of year approaches, we look back at 2022 with gratitude and look forward to 2023 with hope. We are thankful for many new relationships forged, locally and internationally.  We look forward to deepening those connections in the coming year and seeing the opportunities between Israel and the Māori and Pacific communities develop. 

While politically, the New Zealand-Israel relationship leaves much room for improvement, we know that there is a deep level of support for Israel at a people-to-people level. Love for Israel is deeply ingrained in the history of this land and unaffected by the whims of passing governments.

In a presentation in Rotorua, Hon Alfred Ngaro acknowledged the steps taken by Te Arawa in establishing a relationship with Israel. 

He discussed the way in which New Zealand’s history has become part of Israeli heritage, how Kiwi soldiers, including those from Te Arawa iwi fought in the Battle of Ayun Kara and are honoured in Israel.

Alfred tells of experience with an Australian delegation of politicians to Israel, which included a visit to the West Bank planned city of Rawabi. He discussed the many ways that Israeli technology can assist New Zealand.

In this video Dr Sheree Trotter discusses the indigeneity of Jews to Israel and why it matters.

She explains how a false narrative has been constructed that presents Palestinian Arabs as the indigenous population of Israel and Jews as foreign colonisers.  She also addresses the myths of ethnic cleansing, genocide and apartheid.

Sheree argues that Palestinian Rejectionism has been the primary obstacle to a solution to the conflict and that the cultivation of a culture of hatred is priming current and future generations for further conflict.

Dr Sheree Trotter was invited by David Wanetick of Solution Nation to join a discussion about the Israel-New Zealand relationship and economic ecosystem, along with Josh Brown of the New Zealand Israel Innovation Hub.
